Keith Adkins

Survivor

May 2, 2016 I had a colectomy due to numerous bouts of diverticulitis. (Sepsis and Surgery) I was sent home on May 7. 2 days later I was rushed back to the hospital. The colectomy had leaked causing severe sepsis and then septic shock. (Sepsis and Perforated Bowel, Sepsis and Septic Shock)

I spent almost a month in ICU and another month in a rehabilitation hospital learning how to walk, talk and trying to get back some kind of normal. I went home but I stayed sick throughout the summer. I lost over 100 pounds. Late Oct 2016 the doctors found I had an abscess on my left lower lung. Had my lower lobe removed and started feeling better. I was never told about PSS or the long term effects of sepsis. I have learned more from support groups than from any doctor.
