Melissa McAllister

Survivor

11 years ago I went in for an outpatient surgery and ended up in the hospital for 2 months. (Sepsis and Surgery) They called my family and told them to come say goodbye, I wasn’t going to make it through the night.

I woke up from the coma after 16 days with a trach, 8 drainage tubes, g-tube and had been cut in half twice in a week. I was lucky to make it through all that then last year, 4 days after my birthday, I got sepsis once again only this time from a kidney stone.  (Sepsis and Kidney Stones) I was rushed into emergency surgery late at night to put in stints until the infection was gone and was in the CCU for a week, home with yet another PICC line IV antibiotics, discharged and readmitted 3 days later, discharged and had surgery to remove the stone about a week later.

I now have 13 specialist and take lots of meds but I’m alive and breathing and that beats the alternative.
