I was diagnosed with nasopharygeal cancer in May 2018 and began chemo and radiation treatment and a PEG (feeding tube) in July. (Sepsis and Cancer, Sepsis and Invasive Devices)

I began running fever 101-103 one weeknight in August. By the 3rd day, I had hallucinations all day and night. (Sepsis and Hallucinations) I saw fairies dancing all day. The were on the furniture, in the rug pattern, on my clothes, etc. They were very entertaining. I didn’t say anything to anyone about the fairies. That night, I heard people in my house. I thought it was my kids (who are adults with their own families in distant cities) making too much noise. I got up and found strangers in my house, I chased them out of my house. I was in a hall bathroom and could not find my way out of our bathroom so I sat on the floor for a long time. It never occurred to me to cut the light. My husband was alarmed by my hallucinations and called my oncologist.

I spent 7 days in the hospital with sepsis. My doctors did not think I would leave the hospital alive. Fortunately, I did. I want people to know that that sepsis is life-threatening. Call your doctor or 911 immediately. Sepsis is caused by an infection in your body and hallucinations can be a symptom that you are septic.
