Tribute

In May 16th 2022, my mom took my father to the hospital as his neck had started bleeding and she could not get it to stop. As he was on blood thinners, she believed that they would stitch him up and they would be on their way home. When they got to the ER, it was discovered that my dad was in renal failure and had extremely low blood pressure.

He was admitted to the hospital. His platelets were also very low and it was discovered that he had an infection in his neck. For a month he went back and forth between ICU and regular hospital rooms as the doctors tried different things to figure out why his kidneys were not working and why his platelets were so low. On Thursday June 9th, my dad started complaining of his stomach being in severe pain and that it was hurting to breathe at times. The doctors did a scan and found that he had a bowel perforation. (Sepsis and Perforated Bowel) His body was leaking stool into his abdomen.

Emergency surgery was performed but my dad vomited and aspirated on the contents of his abdomen causing pneumonia to develop. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) It was discovered he had become septic from the bowel perforation. He was placed on a ventilator but never regained consciousness. On Monday June 13th, my mother and I made the difficult decision to remove life support as his body was maxed out on dialysis, antibiotics, blood pressure meds, and his pressure was still crashing. He died 20 minutes later.

My dad was 78. He was a good man who loved the Lord, his family (wife, daughter, son-in-law, and 2 grandkids), and his dog Harley. He will be missed every day.
