Survivor

What started as a kidney stone soon became the worse experience of my life. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones) By the time I made it to the hospital I was throwing up everything. I had sepsis and my organs began to shut down. This was followed a heart attack. I lost over 35 pounds during that stay. I spent 6 days in the ICU at which time the doctors informed wife and other family members to prepare for my passing that night.

I don’t really remember much of the hospital from that time. I for some reason demanded to be allowed to go home. They agreed even though I needed help signing my name and date. They assumed I wanted go pass away at home with family. I had so many people praying for me at that time. When I made it home I was not looking so good. No one expected my to survive the night. I did survive and after 4 days I choose to return to a different hospital. I spent 6 more days at that hospital recovering. I don’t know how or why I was spared but it has made me look at things with a different set of eyes.

I am still going through recovery. It is hard for me to walk and do simple things by myself like shower. But the fact I survived has given me a new lease on life. One of the hardest things I’ve dealt with aside from the pain is when I had to see my family when they were trying to say their goodbyes. There was so much sadness and anger. Now hope and happiness has taken its place. I know it is going to take a long time to recover but I have so much to live for that i will fight the entire way. With the support of my family and friends I will make it through.
