Survivor

Hi all! I recently began sharing my story with people on Facebook groups for survivors. Several who have read it found it inspiring and helpful, and recommended I share it here.

In 2014, I developed septic shock resulting from a perforated bowel, died, and brought back to life. (Sepsis and Septic Shock, Sepsis and Perforated Bowel) I was in a coma for almost 3 weeks, and could not walk for many months after. Because of medical mishap, I developed recurring sepsis that left me hospitalized every month for 2 years. Because of complications from all this, I was barely able to get out of bed for 7 years.

6 weeks ago, I moved out on my own for the 1st time in 8 years! I am able to care for myself, am rebuilding my career, and even have a great new boyfriend! I am documenting my journey on my Facebook page, with the hope of inspiring others.

I post about how, even though I have disabilities and some difficulty walking, I am creating a new life, and having fun doing it. It is a bewildering, exciting, and ridiculous experience as I try to figure out technology, career, dating, and everything else “adulting!” I have invited anyone interesting in connecting to send me a friend request, or contact me through my website. Together, we can all move forward and offer one another support. My message to all is, DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE! If I can recover and have a great life, you can, too!
