Eric Harvey

Eric Harvey
Tribute

My 26 year old son, Eric Francis Harvey died suddenly on February 20, 1999. This was a terrible blow to my family and myself, as Eric was very healthy. I got a phone call telling me that my son had just past away.

Eric had just returned from vacationing maybe a month prior. I was told that he complained of having flu like symptoms and he began to try to treat himself. I would see him ever so often, but when I did he was sleeping quite a bit. When I spoke with him, I told him he should go to the doctor and check himself out. I last saw him the Monday before he past. He past two days later on a Wednesday.

I had to wait for the autopsy report to tell me why he would be dead. The answer was sepsis! I was in shock… How? What? He had beta hemolytic Strep Group A, that lead to acute bronchiopneumonia in both lungs, which lead to sepsis. (Sepsis and Group A Streptococcus, Sepsis and Pneumonia) I was told that he complained of chest pain, stomach pain, not being able to urinate, he was always sleepy and then he developed a fever. He was told to go to the doctor by those around him but didn’t understand why he should go at that time. He thought that if he took some medicine and rested for a while that he would be ok. But he died! The medicine was also toxic to him. It help to shut down his system which was already compromised. He took anihistamines, nightquil, dayquil, sleeping pills, xanax and Tylenol with codeine. All of these drugs had some of the same components in them which help to shut him down. The paramedics couldn’t bring him back! This is so hurtful to myself and my family, considering it could have been prevented. So I say to everyone, please don’t try to take matter’s in your own hands and self treat yourself, please go to the doctor especially the men cause often men will not!
