Tracy Thompson

Survivor

Sept 2018 I was 50 yrs old, had felt slightly ill with a low grade fever for a few days. Went to the urgent care suspecting UTI. Was sent home to await results and a few days later woke up in significant pain. Went to local hospital where within hours they identified I was in serious condition based on what appeared to be internal bleeding and significant blood pressure drop.

I was transferred to a trauma hospital where I could receive better care. I immediately underwent surgery to remove my ovaries (they stated a cyst ruptured and caused the infection).  (Sepsis and Bacterial Infections) The next day I underwent another surgery to further clear infection and to perform a hysterectomy and on the third day my heart began to show signs of stress so a heart procedure was done to relieve the stress and I was put on a vent.

I was in the hospital for 12 days and the recovery was significant for me but I feel extremely blessed to have survived. The residual effects definitely take a toll on my mental state and at even 3 yrs out I still battle with issues related to the mental aspects. (cognitive, sleep issues, PTSD etc.)
