Susan Mc.

Survivor

The last week of April 2019, I went into the endoscopy suite to have stones removed from my common bile duct. (Sepsis and Surgery) This was an outpatient surgery. After the procedure was performed, my husband was told I was being admitted to the floor because of uncontrolled pain. I was in the hospital five days, and even though I told the doctor my abdomen was swollen, I was sent home. Two days later, I was readmitted with sepsis and peritonitis, caused from bacteria from GI tract as a result of surgery. I spent two more weeks in the hospital with four additional surgerIes, including a laparotomy to remove pus from my abdomen and pelvis. I went into renal failure and had compartment syndrome. My life was saved by my dedicated infectious disease doctor.

I was released into my husband’s care not able to walk or take care of myself. I had to learn to walk again, shower and take care of myself. I have shortness of breath, my hair is falling out and my abdomen is still sensitive due to thickened loops of small bowel and colon.
