Frankie Warnes

Tribute

Two days after Christmas 2013, my dad was diagnosed with a “blood infection.” He was sent home after a few days in the hospital and was on an IV for 10 days. After a brief exam at the family doctor and good lab work, my dad was sent back to work. That was the end of the blood infection as far as we knew. However, my dad a 64-year-old truck driver, started feeling weaker and weaker: exhausted all the time, having issues getting into his semi on his own. He told us “I don’t know why, I just feel so weak. I can’t get my energy back.” Little did we know these were all symptoms of post sepsis syndrome.

On April 26, 2014, dad woke up feeling terrible. He vomited all over himself and looked at my mom in a very confused way. He was instantly taken to the hospital, where it took them about 14 hours to determine that he was septic. The doctors seemed very nonchalant, he was in a normal room and was one 1 antibiotic. A few days later, he was transferred to another hospital to remove his pacemaker, due to infected wires. Surgery was set for May 2, 2014. However, just an hour before surgery, my dad went into septic shock. His blood sugar plummeted to 55 and his blood pressure dropped extremely low. They instantly put him on 3 blood pressure medicines.

Monday, May 5, they were able to successfully complete the surgery. However when in there, they found out the nasty bacteria had entered the chambers of my dad’s heart. On May 10, 2014, my dad left this world and entered Heaven’s Gates. I pray that we can spread the word, so no other families have to go through this terrible, terrible loss! God Bless.
