Chasity Frantz

Survivor

I got severe septic shock while I was 6 months pregnant with my son. (Sepsis and Pregnancy & Childbirth, Sepsis and Septic Shock) I never heard of it before it changed my life forever.

I was having trouble with an UTI, that led me to the hospital a month before. (Sepsis and UTIs) I was in so much pain that I was throwing up, I got a shot of penicillin and another round of antibiotics and sent home. Then one day at work I felt like I had the flu, went home. My husband made me go to the walk-in. They said I had the flu but decided to do a culture. Got a phone call the next morning to go right to the hospital. They told me ecoli showed up.

I got there and ended up going to ICU. I was put on a ventilator but never sedated because of my baby. Everyone kept telling me I could die. My kidney was infected a tube was inserted to drain it. I was in ICU for 10 days. Then was in and out of the hospital because of new infections. I was on a lot of meds. My husband thought he was going to lose me and our son. Six years later we have a wonderful family, but I suffer from extreme anxiety and now have a ton of food/med sensitivities. My advice is to seek help afterward, I had no idea of how much it would impact my mental health. Everyone around me wanted me to act like my old self , but no matter how hard I tried I would feel like a failure. It takes time! This was no walk in the park, no one tells you that you may have flashbacks, or afraid to step foot in a hospital again. But I’m here to tell you that there are others going through it too, and you are a SURVIVOR.
