Catherine Schonauer

Survivor

I started with strep throat and extreme back pain. (Sepsis and Strep Throat) The ER stated I had strep and a strained back and sent me home with prescriptions. I couldn’t move even to let my dog outside.

Within 24 hours I was transported back to the ER. First the same doctor said I was faking it. I was admitted and put into ICU. I quickly developed pneumonia and from there it went septic. (Sepsis and Pneumonia)

My arms and legs developed gangrene and were amputated to attempt to save my life. (Sepsis and Amputations) This happened at 48 years old and I had a long recovery and therapy. I did live and my new life can be challenging as well as rewarding.
