In 2018 I was in and out of doctors offices and urgent cares for what they thought was just a UTI or kidney stones. They kept putting me on antibiotics that never seemed to work. I was ALWAYS running a low-grade fever, pain in my mid back and just not feeling well. May 2018 I woke up with horrible pain in my right hip and a fever, so my husband decided enough was enough and took me to a nearby emergency room where they just sent me home saying I obviously don’t have a broken hip. We went home in disbelief.

The next day my husband found me shivering uncontrollably and barely responsive on the sofa. When he took my temperature it was 103.6. He rushed me to another hospital a little farther away and they immediately realized it was sepsis and later realized I had a terrible kidney infection. I was in the hospital for a week and on IV antibiotics for another month, then a month later had to get back on IV antibiotics for 2 weeks. Still, to this day I am in pain, have anxiety and terrible memory. I can not find a doctor who even close to understands what I’m going through. Every day is a struggle but I’m so grateful to be alive and hope I will be able to help others who have gone through sepsis.
