Tribute

My beautiful, strong, active, independent 94-year-old mother went to the ER in Aug. 2016, basically for the “usual”…attention. She was a career hypochondriac. I constantly told her she had to stop crying wolf because one of these times she might really be sick and nobody will believe her.

Most of the ER staff knew her because she was a frequent flyer, so some of them showed her attention, others seemed annoyed to see her back again. Anyway her visit in Aug. 2016 was basically the same thing and they were discharging her after an overnight stay, but one of the doctors discovered a severe UTI, so they put her on an aggressive antibiotic intravenously for 2 days. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections) They then released her to a rehab/assisted living facility. Of course her diagnosis and treatment went with her from the hosp. (severe UTI/2 day antibiotic drip). She was there 9 days and nobody took a urine sample, and since there was no prescription in her release papers, she was not being treated for the UTI.

My daughter and I went to visit her the day before she was rushed back to the ER, and we both told the staff something wasn’t right with her, she was very disoriented and confused. Now this was a very sharp minded 94-year-old woman. They said they would check into it, obviously they didn’t. She was rushed back to the ER with a high fever, and was diagnosed with severe sepsis. It was too late for help, she then had a heart attack, stroke, stage 4 kidney failure, pneumonia, internal bleeding (due to the Xarelto). The doctor said her brain was throwing blood clots. It was a horrible senseless neglectful death!!! Shame on them…GOD how I miss my mama.
