Bernadine P.

In 2009 at the age of 26, I got extremely ill. I had pneumonia, was unaware, and ended up in the emergency room, and I was in and out of consciousness, and at some point, I went septic. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) I suffered heart failure, kidney failure, and lung failure. They told my mom I had about six hours to live.
Every day I hung on but to preserve the organs I needed to live, my blood started to pull the blood from my hands and feet ( the things you can live without) and push the blood towards my heart, and my hands and feet started to gangrene. I was on a tracheostomy, and no surgeon would remove the dead limbs till I could breathe on my own. From Dec 2009 to Feb 2010, I watched my limbs die. I spent six months in the hospital and a year in outpatient rehab.
That was 13 years.
