I was diagnosed with sepsis one week post op after a total vaginal hysterectomy and ovary removal. (Sepsis and Surgery) I had been feeling well after the surgery and was preparing to return to back to work. On day six after surgery, I blacked out from severe abdominal/ pelvic pain. I could barely move from the pain, had hot and cold chills , nausea, and severe dizziness all day.

I called my surgeon the next day and was advised to go the Emergency Department. I did and was admitted with sepsis, post-op infection, white blood cell count of 22,000, and had a low potassium level of 2.7. I suffered severe cramping, diarrhea, nausea, body aches, and chills, I was npo for several days to let my gut rest. I was admitted for 4 days, given 2-3 different IV antibiotics and several rounds of potassium until my wbc’s normalized and I could tolerate food. It was the worst experience of my life.
