Susan Hutcheson
Survivor

I was admitted to the hospital for a twist in my colon. I had abdominal surgery and a resection and was released from hospital but I had hallucinations, fever, and was lethargic.

I was readmitted to hospital and a surgeon took me ASAP to surgery. Worse case of sepsis he had ever seen. I had been septic for 5 days. He cleansed my organs, put in a medically induced coma. The doctor actually washed each of my internal organs. And they had given me a 10% chance of living. My kidneys were shutting down, and I had a heart attack. I did survive but all major organs have damage including mental. Extreme fatigue… I will never be the person I was before having sepsis, but I’m alive and grateful. Until I was diagnosed I had heard little about sepsis.
