Allow me to provide a brief overview of my recent health journey. In 2021, I experienced a severe case of Covid for the second time, resulting in hospitalization due to a significant drop in my oxygen levels to the 60s. Fortunately, I survived the ordeal; however, it left me grappling with severe depression and feelings of resentment.
By the summer of 2022, I had recovered sufficiently to discontinue the use of supplemental oxygen and gradually resume full-time work. Despite the challenges, I believed I had overcome the worst of my health struggles. Unfortunately, in August 2023, I unexpectedly suffered a gall bladder attack without any prior warning signs. Due to the blood thinners prescribed to me following my battle with Covid, immediate surgery was not an option, and I was discharged with a prescription for Vicodin. Within 48 hours, my condition deteriorated rapidly as my temperature spiked, blood pressure dropped below 90/60, and my resting heart rate exceeded 120 beats per minute, despite being 59 years old.
This health crisis led to my introduction to sepsis and eventual septic shock, resulting in multiple organ failure. I am now a seven-month survivor, navigating the challenges and uncertainties that many individuals in this community are also facing. While it is reassuring to find solidarity among others who understand these struggles, I sincerely wish that none of us had to endure such hardships.
