My condition took place when my youngest son was only about 6 months old. It began during the middle of the night. I awoke to being extremely cold. I was shaking even though I was under about 3 blankets. I finally fell asleep but because my kids were so little (6months & 2yrs old) I had to wake up early to tend to them.

When I woke up I had the most an awful headache!! The worst head ache that I had ever felt. My parents came picked up my 2 yr. old so that maybe I could get some relief. A couple of hours went by and they were ready to bring him back home, but by that time I felt even worse. I had took several pain killers but my headache had not dismissed itself- in fact it had gotten much worse. Being that my son was crawling, he spent much time on the floor and every time I had to tilt my head down to view him, my head felt as if it was going to fall off. So when my dad arrived with my son, I asked him if he would instead take both the baby and my older son with them for a while longer. He then said it was time to go to the ER.

I didn’t want to go but something inside me knew that something wasn’t right. So I went. When I got to the ER they took some blood tests and gave me some more painkillers. A while later they returned and told me I was septic- I had no idea what that was or how dangerous it could be. At that time they immediately put an IV in my arm and set me up in a private room and began administrating some heavy doses of antibiotics and even gave me morphine for the pain. Thank goodness that I was released from the hospital after 3 nights and 4 days. I didn’t know how serious that condition was until years later that I have read and began hearing more and more about it. I’m so very thankful that the staff at the hospital we’re able to recognize the symptoms and get me treated right away before things got any worse.
