Survivor

I too had sepsis.

I spent 22 days in a drug-induced coma, then six weeks of physical rehabilitation. Two and half years later I was able to return to the work force.

I survived this ordeal but it took many months to rebuild my physical and mental strength. To this day, I still have horrible flash backs from my ICU days and not being able to tell what was real and what was a dream. My husband says, my personality even changed from this condition. My only suggestion to someone who experienced this, don’t give up, keep trying. Everything will return to normal, it just takes time. Everyone’s journey will be different but never quit trying.

My sepsis was triggered from an infected kidney stone that sent e-coli into my blood stream. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones) It went weeks, maybe even months, undetected by my doctor. A simple urine culture could have saved me from going septic. I was even on dialysis for several weeks until my kidneys returned to normal function.

Even to this day, construction of a simple paragraph or writing out monthly bills gets confusing even down right frustrating. I am doing much better now. But, I think there was some kind of brain damage from the mass infection I had. (Sepsis and Post-Sepsis Syndrome)
