Mary B.
Survivor

I have survived sepsis twice. Once in 2005. They believed I had a kidney stone (an E. coli infection) and went into total organ failure. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones) I was given the drug Xygris (no longer available). I spent 7 weeks in ICU, a total of 4 months in hospital. There were side effects of Xygris. I lost the toes of my right foot and had wounds on both heels going to the bone. The wound on the left heel still has not healed.

In 2014 I was hospitalized with septicemia (fungal infection), not as severe as in 2005. (Sepsis and Fungal Infections) Total of 8 weeks in hospital. I am also a Type 2 diabetic which hasn’t helped in the healing process. (Sepsis and Diabetes) My overall well being has not what it used to be.
