Maria Felipe

Survivor

My name is Maria. On February 1, 2010, I woke up with a sore throat and achy body. Shortly after I had a high fever. I was getting some maintenance done on my car. I had to wait for my car to be fixed while I had chills and a high fever.

By the evening, I thought all I had to do was sleep of my fever to get better for work the next day. My husband, Tony, worked the night shift! He left for work that night and all I could remember was kicking off my covers because I was hot! But I went into septic shock and my 8-year-old woke up to find me unconscious.

I was taken to the local hospital where they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I was airlifted to a hospital in Sacramento. The next day, I was airlifted to another hospital in San Francisco. I was clinging to life but I recovered. I woke up five days later with no complications!

I forget easily now. But I’m happy, thanks to the Lord above and my family.

Added by Sepsis Alliance: The doctors told Maria after that her sepsis was caused by strep throat  (Sepsis and Strep Throat) along with a urine infection. She had been previously treated for the UTI. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections)
