If you feel unwell after giving birth, speak up!

I almost lost my life to sepsis in 2021 after giving birth to my daughter. (Sepsis and Pregnancy & Childbirth) I was discharged home the next day after giving birth due to lack of rooms in the hospital. When I got home I had this feeling like something isn’t right with me.

In the morning I called my doctor about my lower back pain and feeling extremely tired and weak. He said give yourself some time, you just gave birth to a human 48 hours ago. You’re young and healthy. Everything will be fine.

I woke up at night feeling like I’m freezing. I was shivering and couldn’t control myself. I remember waking up my husband and saying I feel like I can’t breathe. My chest was on fire, but at the same time I felt like I was freezing. My husband called 911 and they came fast but I felt like it took forever. I felt like I was dying. My blood pressure was extremely low, but heart rate was rising. I also had a fever of 102. I was passing out thinking about who would comfort my baby without me, and woke up in ICU.

The doctor told me I almost went to septic shock. I spent 6 days there. Sepsis kills you within hours. Not days, hours. Never ignore any symptoms and advocate for yourself. I’m so thankful to God for being alive and seeing my little girl grow.
