Linda Carroll

Tribute

My mother, Linda, was diagnosed with pneumonia this time last year. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) After rounds and rounds of antibiotics and more doctors’ visits then I can count, mom made it through the holidays only to end up in the hospital January 1st. I was immediately taken into a separate room to discuss “her wishes.” That’s when the reality of how urgent her situation became clear. Her toes had turned purple, she wasn’t coherent at times.

My once vibrant, full of life, always on the go mom just slept. Mom was admitted to the ICU and stayed for over a week. I take comfort in knowing that the entire time she was hospitalized, she was never alone. Well, she made so much progress, she came home!! However, after daily home nursing care and the love & support of her family, mom went downhill again and was admitted directly to the ICU again. After struggling to breath, she was medically induced to be intubated. Unfortunately, days of 2 steps forward, 3 steps back went on and mom passed away on February 4th. Again, she was not alone. Mom was the most generous, caring person to everyone. If she knew you, you were family.

My family are honoring her by participating in a Sepsis Awareness Triathamile. Hopefully, knowledge will find a way to help more people.
