Katie Turck

Survivor

I started getting very sick and had horrible symptoms. I was in horrible pain, the worst I have ever felt, with extreme tremors and sweating, and rapid heartbeat. I honestly felt like I was dying. We called 911 and the ambulance team thought it was not an emergency and told me that I did not need to go in. I went with my gut and went to the ER anyway, where I was diagnosed with severe colitis and sepsis. I was immediately put on fluids and two strong antibiotics by IV. I was in the hospital for around 3 days. The ER doctor had trouble putting into words what would have happened if I hadn’t come in. I knew about sepsis before but didn’t know about the specific symptoms or that someone at the age of 25 could develop it. I’m so glad I know now and I try to be an advocate and spread the awareness about sepsis everyday.
