Survivor

I had been struggling with urinary tract infections for years. My doctor jokingly referred to it as the “newlywed” disease, but after almost 2 years of marriage, I continued to have them regularly. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections)

The previous summer I had a partial hysterectomy due to endometriosis. Unfortunately not everything was removed and a mass formed in my left side, blocking my left kidney causing it to back up and get infected. I went to the ER several times, but it took a while for them to figure it out. By then the infection had spread and I had sepsis. I never realized, at the time, how serious this was. I was in the hospital for a week and had surgery to remove the mass. Even after I came home, nurses came to my home daily to provide wound care and antibiotics through a line in my arm. It was rough. My body has never been the same. Since then I have lived with chronic pain and fatigue. I have the diagnosis of fibromyalgia, but I am beginning to wonder if it is not related to the sepsis.
