Jameson

Survivor

Jameson was diagnosed with chronic and acute pancreatitis just after turning 2. Three weeks after his 3rd birthday, he was the youngest person in the world to undergo a total pancreotectomy auto islet transplant in order to save his life. They removed his spleen, gallbladder, appendix, pancreas and part of his upper intestines. His recovery was going well for a few days until he spiked a 105 fever in ICU. For almost a week nothing showed up in his labs as far as infection. Then one night, his blood pressure dropped so low, they had to pump him full of blood and adrenaline by hand just to stabilize him, called a code blue when he started to flatline and rushed him to the OR immediately. They found out he had sepsis, which was resistant to all the antibiotics he had been getting. That was the longest night of my life not knowing if if see my baby alive again.

There was a bowel perforation and his blood was completely toxic, so they reopened his huge incision from the week before and gave an abdominal wash as well as a colostomy bag. (Sepsis and Perforated Bowel) He received numerous blood transfusions and the next 48 hours were critical for him. Finally he started to turn a corner. All of his doctors said it was a miracle it didn’t kill him because he was already so sick. A month in ICU and 2 months on a surgical floor and Jameson was finally released from the hospital. Today he is a happy 3 1/2 year old that is full of life.
