Survivor

I developed a UTI on July 3, 2009, which rapidly worsened to the point where I had intense pain on urination and body shakes that I couldn’t control.  (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections) When my wife discovered me I was on the couch with uncontrollable shakes and trembling. She called 911 and an ambulance was dispatched which transported me to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

There I was diagnosed with sepsis and treatment to control blood pressure which had fallen to dangerous levels was taken as well as tests to determine the exact cause of the sepsis. I was given an antibiotic cocktail as a first treatment. After a period in the ER I was transferred to an Intermediate Care Unit where there was one on one care by an RN. Once they determined that E.coli was the culprit in my case I was started on a regimen of IV antibiotics which lasted for over 2 weeks.

I had a severe episode where my blood pressure rose rapidly and again suffered severe tremors. It was brought under control and after 3 days I was discharged. I now have loss of some kidney function and continue to suffer periodic UTIs, but am careful to not let them get out of control.
