Holly Farris Bunker

Tribute

I am writing to tell the story of my beloved wife Holly Farris Bunker who died from sepsis on October 3, 2013.

It had all started October 1st with flu-like symptoms which rapidly grew into a serious infection. Holly’s symptoms were sharp pain in her legs, numbness in her fingers, very intense chills, and confusion. On October 2nd, we quickly went to a medical emergency clinic when bluish bruising/discoloration appeared around her mouth and nose. This was when we both knew it was more serious than a flu. It was a serious medical emergency.

It’s at this point of the story you will see how important it is for there to be more education in the medical community regarding early sepsis detection and treatment. Upon our visit to the clinic, Holly was examined and vitals were taken. She was diagnosed with Raynauds syndrome. With trust and confidence toward the doctors, we did as we were told which was to go home and drink fluids, and try and keep warm. Our fears were put to rest as a professional doctor reassured us it was not serious.

Holly died at home 2 days later. After her passing, the cause of death was determined to be streptococcus pneumonia sepsis. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) Had early detection been achieved, Holly would likely still be alive. I hope this story gives a little insight into some symptoms to look out for as well as questions one might put forth to a physician if sepsis is suspected.

Thanks for reading.
