About a year ago, I had gone to the dentist and had a root canal done, for which, my dentist gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. (Sepsis and Dental Health) I don’t think I was done with the prescription, but one night, I just didn’t feel right. For no reason apparent to me, I had the chills so bad my teeth were chattering. I couldn’t hold still long enough to stay in bed and sleep so I decided to take a hot bath. I got in the water but it wasn’t a comfort or help with the chatters. I only stayed in the water a few minutes and had to get out.

I was getting dressed when my wife was talking to me but then I stopped responding to her and just stayed in a kneeling position and hanging onto the towel rack. I don’t know why I didn’t relax and drop to the floor. She called 911 and an ambulance came and took me to the emergency room. I don’t remember anything after I was talking to my wife and stopped responding until I came to in the emergency room.

I took a $2000 ride in an ambulance with its lights flashing and siren blaring and I don’t remember a thing about it. They got me stabilized and told me I had septic shock, which I had never heard of, and said that only 50% of the people who come in them with that ever leave alive. They also felt that the infection I had from the root canal had triggered a much worse infection. I came home the next day and haven’t had any complications from it. I’ve been trying to figure out more about sepsis and what I can do to prevent it. I’m also interested in why I’d never heard of sepsis before I ended up in the hospital with it. (I believe I sent you my story right after this happened but I’m not sure)
