I had an emergency C-section July 7th of 2016. I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy Eli. He was due until September 18th. I am a diabetic and during my baby’s long hospital stay I was not taking care of myself at all. Eli is my 3rd child and I had life going on as I sat in the NICU with my husband.

I stayed by Eli’s side day and night. My C-section got extremely infected and one day I was sitting in Eli’s room and got very cold and was shaking to no end. I was pouring in sweat and become very weak. (Sepsis and Pregnancy & Childbirth, Sepsis and Diabetes) I was rushed to the emergency room and intubated and put into a medically induced coma. For a week I was like that. While I was under they discovered I had 2 large blood clots in my lungs and started me on a blood thinner. They ended up cutting open 3 abscess draining them and packing them. Once I woke I couldn’t walk or stand and I still couldn’t breathe properly on my own. I ended up staying in the ICU for another 2 weeks.

My life has been changed forever. Even now I wake up in a horrible sweat crying, every time I don’t feel 100 percent. I get uneasy and scared that I will die. Then some days I find myself feeling so blessed that I actually survived septic shock. I do try to count my blessings each and every day.
