Tribute

My mother was hospitalized late 2011 with a UTI. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections) With Christmas coming, the hospital was anxious to send people home because of staff shortage and my mom was told she was being discharged. A friend of mine who worked on the word told me my mom was too sick to go but I could do nothing, because I was just an advocate not a doctor.

My mom was readmitted in the new year. The hospital internal doctor met with me and her in her room, telling us her kidneys had failed due to sepsis and nothing could be done. I had been trying to get in touch with my mother’s doctor for a week but he was not responding. I asked this doctor if he would help me get hold of her doctor. He was very rude to me, telling me that he was not my secretary. Under the circumstances, I was shocked at such rudeness. I immediately has him replaced and consulted with his replacement, who agreed to try some things, including dialysis. She lived another 5 and a half years.

Thank God I replaced that pig of a doctor. But I wonder if she had have been treated earlier, before being sent home, what might have been different.
