John (Johnny) Cerrito

Tribute

August 24, 2012: My name is Jake Graham and this is a recall of the nightmare that I will never forget. My best friend, my roommate, John Cerrito died this last Sunday due to sepsis. He was 36.

Last Thursday, Johnny went in to the hospital to have a boil drained from his arm. They bandaged him up and I saw him later in the day. I asked if they gave him antibiotics his answer was no.

Now I’m not sure if that was the case or not but, nonetheless, Johnny wasn’t taking any. He probably didn’t think anything of it. I know I didn’t. His arm looked good and, in fact, the next day his arm looked like it was healing (This is Friday).

Saturday Johnny said he felt terrible and I said, well lets get you to the hospital. He said he could barely move and to call an ambulance so we did.

Less than 12 hours later, my friend was pronounced brain dead.

It is so very hard for me even to comprehend the whole thing. We ate dinner together Friday and early Sunday morning he was gone.

Please spread the word of the deadly effects of Sepsis. In 3 days, my friend went from being healthy to being a memory. Sepsis killed my Best Friend, – John Cerrito may he rest in peace.johnny_cerrito_2
