Larry Herndon

Tribute

Last November my father went to the hospital to be treated for boils on his feet. When he went in, he seemed fine. He wasn’t feeling sick. I remember my mother and I sitting with him playing board games while waiting for him to be seen by the doctor.

We thought once he was treated he would be back home and everything would be fine. The doctor assured us it was nothing to be overly concerned about. Little did we know that would be our last few days with my father. He was admitted so the doctors could treat the boils and get the swelling to go down. We knew something wasn’t right when his health drastically changed over the next two days. He went from playing games and lecturing me for missing work to be there with him to not being able to hold anything because he was shaking really bad.

He would tell us he was confused and we thought it was from the medication they were giving him. My father fought until his very last breath and he tried to pull through but it was too late, sepsis had already taken his life.

My father died in my arms on Friday November 18, 2011. It’s a day I will never forget. We never knew what sepsis was or even heard of it until it was too late. In loving memory of my father Larry Herndon 8/10/51 – 11/18/11
