Sepsis Alliance Best-Practice Network for Sepsis Coordinators grows to represent over 1,000 hospitals covering more than 370,000 beds

SAN DIEGO, Calif, October 05, 2018 — Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis patient advocacy non-profit organization, is proud to announce its newly launched Sepsis Coordinator Network (SCN), launched in May of this year, has grown to more than 1,200 healthcare professionals from over 1,000 hospitals across North America covering more than 30,000 hospital beds.

Sepsis Alliance created the network with support from sponsors to improve sepsis outcomes nationwide by providing healthcare professionals with evidence-based best-practice resources and guidance.

“The rapid growth of the Sepsis Coordinator Network speaks to the need in the medical community for the guidance and sepsis resources the network provides,” said Tom Heymann, Executive Director of Sepsis Alliance. “We are grateful to all of the sponsors who have helped to make this possible, including Accelerate Diagnostics, an organization dedicated to providing sepsis coordinators and all health professionals with tools and solutions to improve sepsis outcomes.”

Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, amputation, and death. In the United States, more than 1.7 million people are diagnosed with sepsis and 270,000 die of sepsis each year.

The Sepsis Coordinator Network is led by experts in the field of nursing with critical experience in caring for sepsis patients. A complementary team of healthcare professionals from across the continuum of care serve as clinical advisors in specialized areas. They include physicians, pharmacists, and mental health specialists, among others. The network also provides professionals with an online forum to ask questions and get support from their peers and sepsis experts when they face challenges in their practice.

The Sepsis Coordinator Network is open to active healthcare providers with an interest in improving sepsis care and there is no fee to become a member. Interested professionals can register at www.SepsisCoordinatorNetwork.org.
