Sepsis Alliance Expanding Advisory Board and Staff

Sepsis Alliance is pleased to announce the appointments of Lisa Shieh, MD, PhD, and Nikunj Vyas, PharmD, BCPS to two-year terms on the Sepsis Alliance Advisory Board.

“As Sepsis Alliance continues to expand our provider education and training resources, it is vital to include healthcare providers from the entire continuum of care,” said Thomas Heymann, Sepsis Alliance President and CEO. “Dr. Shieh and Dr. Vyas both bring new insight and knowledge to our Advisory Board and we are thrilled to have their expertise on the team.”

Lisa Shieh, MD, PhD, is a clinical professor of medicine and hospitalist in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University. Dr. Shieh is known for her creation of Septris, an online sepsis education game, which was the winner of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) innovation competition in 2013. She was selected as the SHM representative at the 2016 update of the Surviving Sepsis Guidelines. In 2018, her newest online game “Safety Quest: Teaching QI through Gamification” was an SHM top five innovation oral presentation. She is currently the medical director of QI programs for Graduate Medical Education and the faculty sponsor for Stanford’s Medical Student QI interest Group.

Dr. Nikunj Vyas is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases currently practicing at Jefferson Health – New Jersey. At Jefferson Health – New Jersey, Dr. Vyas currently oversees infectious disease pharmacotherapy and co-chairs the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee in collaboration with Infectious Diseases service. Dr. Vyas also serves as a member on numerous committees including Sepsis, Infection Control, as well as the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

In December 2020, Dr. Vyas also led an educational webinar for the Sepsis Alliance Clinical Community: “Antimicrobial Stewardship and Management of Sepsis: Two Sides of the Same Coin.”

 

Sepsis Alliance would also like to announce two staff promotions and an addition to the team.

Alex Sadorf, formerly the Stewardship and Operations Manager has been promoted to Communications Director. Alex has been with Sepsis Alliance for over three years and, in that time, worked in operations, development, and events.

Additionally, Hannah Eichelberger, formerly the E-Learning Manager, has been promoted to the role of Manager of Provider Education and Training. Hannah has been with the team for nearly two years and helped launch the Sepsis Alliance Institute and the Sepsis Alliance Summit.

Amanda Feinman has also joined the Sepsis Alliance team as the Communications and Advocacy Specialist. Amanda has previously worked as a writer and editor for various publications.

As we move into a new year, Sepsis Alliance will continue building a strong team and network to continue saving lives and reducing suffering by improving sepsis awareness and care, “So more survive!”
