Sandy Cayo Moves to Board of Directors

Sepsis Alliance is pleased to announce that Sandy Cayo, DNP, FNP-BC, PhD(c), a previous Advisory Board member, has accepted a three-year term on the Sepsis Alliance Board of Directors.

Dr. Cayo is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with over 15 years of healthcare experience and expertise. Dr. Cayo specializes in the areas of clinical, academic, and executive leadership. Currently, Dr. Cayo is an active healthcare consultant and Principal Consultant of Cayo Health Consulting.

“Dr. Cayo’s varied experience and commitment to closing healthcare gaps in historically underserved populations make her an asset to Sepsis Alliance,” said Thomas Heymann, Sepsis Alliance President and CEO. “I am thrilled to continue working with her in this role, as Sepsis Alliance works toward closing gaps and addressing inequalities in sepsis diagnosis, treatment, and care.”

Bridging the gaps in social determinants of health and global health education in nursing is a passion for Dr. Cayo. Dr. Cayo travels annually to Haiti and Ghana for medical missions and serves as the Director of Education for HEAL (Health Education Action League) Haiti.

During her time on the Advisory Board, Dr. Cayo joined the Sepsis Alliance Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee, supporting Sepsis Alliance’s work towards addressing health disparities and health inequities.

“I am so excited and committed to the work of Sepsis Alliance,” said Dr. Cayo. “I look forward to continuing to advance the work of improving sepsis care for all patients.”
