Sepsis Alliance and “America’s Got Talent” Finalist Daniel Emmet Partner to Combat Deadly, Underrecognized Disease
Emmet and Sepsis Alliance are working to help others recognize signs and symptoms of sepsis so they can get the treatment they need, fast.
SAN DIEGO, Calif, July 19, 2019 –Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis organization, announced today it is partnering with Daniel Emmet, multilingual powerhouse singer, songwriter and “America’s Got Talent” finalist, to raise awareness of sepsis.
Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, amputations and death. In the United States, 1.7 million people are affected by sepsis and 270,000 people pass away from sepsis every year. However, as many as 80 percent of sepsis deaths could be prevented with rapid diagnosis and treatment.
“When I first heard of sepsis, I was shocked that I didn’t know what it was despite its effect on millions of people every year. We know about cancer and we know about heart disease, so how do all of us not know about sepsis?” said Emmet, Sepsis Awareness Advocate. “Knowledge is the first step and I’m proud to stand with the Sepsis Alliance as they fight on the front lines to raise awareness about this life-threatening condition.”
Emmet will be a guest and performer at the Sepsis Alliance’s 8th Annual Sepsis Heroes gala, the organization’s annual fundraising event, on September 12, 2019, in New York City. The event, timed to coincide with Sepsis Awareness Month, honors Sepsis Heroes who have made a significant contribution to sepsis awareness and education. It will also feature several performances including a new, original song by Emmet, titled “While You Can.” The song was written by Emmet, his music director and conductor Jerry Williams, and Grammy-award-winning songwriter Frank Meyers. Gala attendees will also be treated to a duet featuring Emmet and Angelica Hale, singer, “America’s Got Talent” and “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” finalist, and Sepsis Celebrity Advocate. This will be the first-ever duet between the two former contestants.
The evening is sure to be memorable, and provides the opportunity to connect with sepsis survivors, loved ones of sepsis patients, nurses, doctors, industry professionals working on sepsis identification and treatment, as well as many others passionate about the cause.
