Bill Mooney Joins Sepsis Alliance Board of Directors
June 8, 2023
Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis awareness and advocacy organization, is pleased to announce Bill Mooney has joined the Board of Directors.
Mr. Mooney learned about sepsis through the tragic loss of his sister, Linda Sawyer, who died from sepsis in 2019. He has since dedicated his time to fighting sepsis, including hosting an annual charity golf event to support Sepsis Alliance and raise awareness.
Mr. Mooney says that his work with Sepsis Alliance thus far has been very meaningful.
“It is incredibly rewarding to join the Sepsis Alliance Board of Directors,” Bill Mooney shared. “The entire team at Sepsis Alliance is supportive, incredibly motivated, and I could not be happier with them as a partner to fight this good fight.”
As the current Executive Vice President for the New York-based commercial based real-estate and investment firm CBRE, Mr. Mooney also brings his financial expertise to help the organization promote sepsis awareness.
“Bill is a fantastic asset to the Sepsis Alliance Board of Directors,” said Thomas Heymann, Sepsis Alliance President and CEO. “He is passionate about saving lives from sepsis and improving public health.”
In the United States, sepsis affects 1.7 million people and takes 350,000 adult lives each year (270,000 in hospital and 80,000 released to hospice). On average, approximately 30% of patients diagnosed with severe sepsis do not survive. Almost 60% of sepsis survivors experience worsened mental and/or physical function. Until a cure for sepsis is found, early detection and treatment is essential for survival and limiting disability for survivors.
