#GivingTuesdayNow

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.

#GivingTuesdayNow emphasizes opportunities to give back to communities in safe ways that allow for social connection and kindness even while practicing physical distancing.

Keep reading to see a few ways that you can join in this global day of giving with Sepsis Alliance.

Give Thanks

It is a scary time for a lot of people, especially nurses, doctors, and other essential workers. Help Sepsis Alliance thank them for the work they are doing by writing a thank you card. Get the kids involved and spend an afternoon writing and coloring thank you notes for medical workers. You can then mail them to Sepsis Alliance and we will send them out, reminding our healthcare providers how grateful we are for their work and sacrifice right now and always.

Not sure what to say? A simple “Thank you for your strength!” and “This is what I am doing to #FlattenTheCurve” will remind them that we appreciate their work and are doing our part.

You can also print and color in this picture of Bug, below, and include a “Thank you!”

You can also take the time to thank Sepsis Alliance donors who make our work possible. If you have benefited from a Sepsis Alliance program, like Faces of Sepsis, or have used any of the vast educational resources on sepsis.org, please help us thank those that make it possible! We will send your thank you note to donors across the globe. After all, we can never thank them enough.

Keep reading below to learn how your card can equal $2 donated to Sepsis Alliance!

You can mail the cards/notes/drawings to:

Sepsis Alliance
3180 University Avenue, Ste 235
San Diego, CA 92104

You can also send us pictures of you working on them or email the notes to us at asadorf@sepsis.org.

Give Now

We will continue to provide relevant and timely information on this pandemic. If you are able, we ask that you consider a gift to Sepsis Alliance today, to help us continue in this mission to provide education to healthcare providers, support to providers, sepsis survivors, and all those affected by sepsis.

In the near future, there will likely be many COVID-19 patients who are sepsis survivors, and they will need the support of our strong community. Your gifts will help us prepare to give them that and more. Thank you for your help during this challenging time.

Our Board of Directors matching gift challenge has been extended through #GivingTuesdayNow! Every gift will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $30,000. Plus, each thank you card we receive will be matched with $2 from the fund, until the $30,000 runs out.

The CARES Act—the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act—is a $2.2 trillion stimulus plan that contains funding opportunities for charities and enhanced charitable giving incentives. The following information provides an overview of the key parts of the plan regarding charitable giving incentives, but it is not intended to provide legal advice.

  • Temporary Universal Charitable Deduction—Taxpayers who do not itemize their deductions can take a one-time deduction of up to $300 for gifts made to charitable organizations. The provision is intended only for the year 2020. The deduction is ONLY for gifts of cash made in calendar year 2020 and does not cover other types of gifts or contributions made to donor-advised funds or private foundations.
  • Suspends the 60 percent adjusted gross income limitation for individuals’ charitable contributions for the year 2020. In a typical year, individuals can only take a charitable deduction of up to 60 percent of their adjusted gross income, no matter how much they give. For 2020, there is no limit, making cash contributions fully deductible.
