April 30 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • « Sepsis Alliance Connect: What is a “Ceremony of Loss”?
  • Smart Giving: How to Make the Most of Your Donations and Maximize Your Impact »

Date: April 30, 2025

Time: 10:00 – 5:00 PM ET / 7:00 am – 2:00 pm PT

Description:

Antibiotic resistance, where bacteria evolve to withstand antibiotics, is a looming public health crisis threatening our ability to treat common infections. The global toll is staggering: antibiotic-resistant infections directly claim 1.27 million lives annually and contribute to an additional 5 million deaths. A significant driver behind this crisis is the overuse of antibiotics, which accelerates the evolution of resistant strains.

Addressing antibiotic resistance demands a multifaceted approach. Prevention is paramount, starting with infection control and improving antibiotic use to curb resistance. When resistance does emerge, halting its spread becomes essential. A critical component in this fight is antibiotic stewardship—structured efforts in healthcare settings to ensure antibiotics are prescribed only when genuinely needed and used correctly.

The link between antibiotic resistance and sepsis adds another layer of urgency. Sepsis, a life-threatening response to infection, often requires broad-spectrum antibiotics. However, reducing unnecessary antimicrobial use is crucial in combating resistance. As antimicrobial resistance (AMR) grows, so does the risk of common infections escalating to sepsis, leading to severe outcomes like amputations and increased mortality. The Healthcare C-Suite AMR Market Report by the Sepsis Alliance in 2023 highlights that only 26% of U.S. healthcare leaders rate their institutions with an “A” in addressing AMR, underscoring the need for improvement in these efforts.

The Sepsis Alliance AMR Conference aims to foster collaboration and innovation to address this challenge. With 77% of healthcare executives advocating for expanded AMR education, the conference offers clinicians, caregivers, patients, and the public a valuable platform to learn about current research, cutting-edge technologies, and effective strategies to manage both sepsis and the growing threat of antibiotic resistance.

Topics covered will include:

  • The global burden of bacterial AMR;
  • Use of Technology and Artificial Intelligence to combat AMR;
  • AMR and Health Equity;
  • Role of the Gut Microbiome in AMR;
  • Communicating AMR in Urgent Care and Outpatient Settings;
  • Development of an Immunocompromised AMS program.

Sepsis Alliance gratefully acknowledges the support provided for the Sepsis Alliance AMR Conference by all of our sponsors.
