Law Inspired by 12 Year-old’s Death Estimated to Have Saved Almost 5,000 Patients in New York

Rory Staunton died from septic shock in 2012. Since then, thousands of lives have been saved thanks to Rory’s Regulations, established in 2013 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo requiring all New York state hospitals to administer evidence-based protocols for the early diagnosis and treatment of sepsis. According to a recent New York State report, “Sepsis Care Improvement Initiative,” patients are being identified and treated earlier — a measure that is saving lives.
