Sepsis Vitamin C Treatment

April 4, 2017

A recent study by Paul Marik, MBBCh, a critical care physician at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), has been getting national attention for the use of vitamin C to treat patients with severe sepsis, however many experts believe more research is needed to confirm Dr. Marik’s results.

The story originated on NPR.org with the article, “Doctor Turns Up Possible Treatment For Deadly Sepsis.”

Sepsis Alliance Board Chair, Dr. Jim O’Brien, also commented on the study in this HeathNewsReview.com story, “A vitamin C ‘cure’ for sepsis? Don’t hold your breath.”

Editor’s Note: The study described in the article “Early use of high-dose vitamin C is beneficial in treatment of sepsis” was retracted by the journal on October 5, 2022.
