New webinar series addresses sepsis across the continuum of care

SAN DIEGO, CA  – Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis advocacy organization, is launching a new webinar series aimed at educating healthcare professionals about sepsis across the continuum of care and raising sepsis awareness overall. Leading experts from across the nation will address sepsis from a variety of angles for these free, informative sessions.

The first webinar, Nurses Suspect Sepsis, kicks off Thursday, September 21 at 2 p.m. EST led by Sharon L. Hansen, MN, RN, CCRN, a critical care nurse with more than 30 years of experience and a clinical focus on sepsis identification. The hour-long session will address the definition of sepsis, its symptoms, risks as sepsis progresses, early warning signs of sepsis, and interventions and therapies to treat sepsis.

“Sepsis is a medical emergency and part of our mission is to educate healthcare professionals on early detection and rapid response to save lives,” said Thomas Heymann, executive director of Sepsis Alliance. “By bringing in a variety of experts to speak to a range of healthcare professionals, we’re excited to not only raise awareness but demonstrate how all medical staff, including nurses, pharmacists, home care workers, and others, can do their part to save lives from sepsis.”

“As a critical care nurse and educator, I understand the value and importance of staff education around sepsis,” said Hansen. “I also understand on a personal level, as my husband developed sepsis in 2003 and was lucky to survive.”

A total of four webinars will be available throughout the remainder of the year with future topics including antimicrobial stewardship (October), code sepsis (November), and skilled care/home care (December). Additional information for future webinars can be found at Sepsis.org.

This webinar series is made possible with support from bioMérieux, Inc.
