Inaugural Dallas/Fort Worth Sepsis Challenge Kicks Off Sepsis Awareness Month in Texas

For the first time, the Dallas/Fort Worth community rallied together to raise awareness of sepsis at a 5K walk and run in Trinity Park.
Fort Worth, TX – On September 1, 2018, over 50 members of the Dallas/Fort Worth community gathered at Trinity Park for a 5K to raise awareness and honor lives affected by sepsis. Together, this passionate and dedicated group raised over $11,000 for Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis organization.
This event, the first Sepsis Challenge event in the state of Texas, was led by Medical City North RN, Dorie Murray.
“After being a critical care RN for 12 years, I saw how many lives were taken by septic shock and knew our hospital had an opportunity to better outcomes for our patients and increase education and awareness in the community,” said Murray.
September 1st was also the beginning of Sepsis Awareness Month. Sepsis Alliance offers various kits and tools for the press, the medical community, and volunteers who want to spread the word. The free downloadable kits include videos, info-graphics, posters, and presentation materials, thanks in large part to funds raised at community events all over the country.
“We are so grateful to the Dallas/Fort Worth community for welcoming this event and proving a dedication to saving lives, through sepsis awareness,” said Thomas Heymann, Executive Director of Sepsis Alliance. “Dedicated volunteers like Dorie have helped raise awareness significantly throughout the country, saving countless lives.”
