Family Physician Marnie Doubek Joins Sepsis Alliance Board of Directors

Marnie Doubek, MD, has joined the Board of Directors of Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading patient advocacy organization promoting sepsis awareness.
San Diego, California – (February 16, 2016) – Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading patient advocacy organization promoting sepsis awareness, today announced that Marnie Doubek, MD, FAAFP, has joined its Board of Directors. Dr. Doubek began practicing family medicine in 2000, helping build a private office into a successful, respected, family practice. In 2013, the practice became part of Atlantic Medical Group.
Dr. Doubek received her bachelor of arts from the University of Pennsylvania and she attended medical school at SUNY Health Science Center, in Brooklyn. After graduating in 1997, Dr. Doubek completed her residency in family medicine at Overlook Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program.
“My life changed in June, 2014.,” Dr. Doubek said. “My 11-year-old son, Zachary, became seriously ill. I, a family physician with over 10 years’ experience, didn’t even consider a diagnosis of sepsis. Neither did the doctors who evaluated Zach. We were lucky – Zach recovered.”
“Dr. Doubek’s knowledge about sepsis, both professional and personal, will be an asset to the Sepsis Alliance Board of Directors, “ Dr. Jim O’Brien, Sepsis Alliance Medical Director and Board Chair, said. “Being clinically active and seeing patients in the community, Dr. Doubek brings Sepsis Alliance even closer to the community it serves.”
Joining the Sepsis Alliance Board is a unique opportunity to raise awareness and improve recognition of the signs and symptoms of sepsis in both the medical community and the general population, Dr. Doubek explained. “I have seen firsthand that early recognition is one of the keys to saving lives.”
Sepsis, sometimes called blood poisoning by the general public, is a medical emergency that occurs when the body’s response to infection begins to injure its own tissues and organs. It is estimated that 258,000 people in the U.S. die every year from sepsis, a preventable condition requiring early diagnosis and rapid treatment.
