The purpose of this policy is to affirm Sepsis Alliance’s commitment to providing equitable, inclusive, and respectful access to all programs, services, and educational resources. This policy ensures that all individuals served by Sepsis Alliance are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect, regardless of personal characteristics or circumstances.
Scope
This policy applies to all Sepsis Alliance programs, services, outreach activities, and educational offerings. It extends to all individuals and communities who engage with the organization, including but not limited to patients, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, partners, and the general public.
Policy Statement
Sepsis Alliance prohibits discrimination in the delivery of services, programs, and outreach based on any characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws. Specifically, Sepsis Alliance does not discriminate on the basis of:
- Race or color
- Ethnicity or national origin
- Language or immigration status
- Religion or creed
- Sex, gender, gender identity, or gender expression
- Sexual orientation
- Age
- Disability (physical, intellectual, or mental)
- Genetic information
- Marital, parental, or familial status

Sepsis Alliance is committed to ensuring that all individuals seeking education, information, or support related to sepsis are able to access services in an environment free from bias, harassment, or discrimination. Implementation and Responsibilities
- Staff and Volunteers: All team members and volunteers are responsible for upholding this policy in all interactions with clients and community members. Training on equity, inclusion, and non-discrimination will be incorporated into onboarding and ongoing professional development.
- Program Leads and Managers: Responsible for ensuring that, to the extent resources allow, program materials, communications, and events reflect inclusive practices and are accessible to all intended audiences. Sepsis Alliance strives to make reasonable efforts to provide formats, accommodations, and equitable participation opportunities within the scope of available resources and funding.
- Leadership Team: Accountable for monitoring compliance, addressing potential violations, and ensuring this policy remains aligned with Sepsis Alliance’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Pledge.
Reporting Concerns
Any individual who believes they have experienced discrimination or harassment in connection with Sepsis Alliance services may report their concern by contacting the Director of Operations and Finance at nlluveras@sepsis.org.
All complaints will be reviewed promptly and handled with sensitivity, discretion, and in accordance with Sepsis Alliance’s internal complaint resolution procedures. Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith is strictly prohibited.
Review and Updates
This policy will be reviewed every two years or as needed to ensure compliance with evolving laws, regulations, and best practices in equity and inclusion.
