Statement from Sepsis Alliance on the Passing of Kyle Busch
May 26, 2026
Sepsis Alliance is deeply saddened by the death of NASCAR champion Kyle Busch following severe pneumonia and sepsis. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and fans.
Kyle’s passing is a tragic reminder that sepsis can happen to anyone and can progress rapidly from an infection, including pneumonia. Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection and is a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment.
We encourage everyone to remember the signs and symptoms of sepsis through the Sepsis: It’s About TIME™ acronym:
T – Temperature higher or lower
I – Infection
M – Mental decline
E – Extremely ill / shortness of breath
These symptoms, either alone or in combination, may indicate that sepsis is developing, and emergency medical care should be sought immediately.
Early recognition saves lives. If you suspect sepsis, seek emergency medical care right away.
In honor of Kyle’s memory, we encourage the public to learn more about sepsis, share awareness with loved ones, and help us continue the fight to save lives through education and awareness.
