Sepsis Alliance Welcomes Laura Evans, MD, MSc, to Board of Directors

Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis organization dedicated to raising awareness of sepsis and saving lives through education and advocacy, is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Evans, MD, MSc, to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Evans, a nationally recognized critical care physician and leader in sepsis quality improvement, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington. She earned her medical degree at the University of Michigan and did her residency in internal medicine at Columbia University. She completed pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship training and earned a Master of Science in epidemiology at the University of Washington. After fellowship, she joined the faculty at NYU and Bellevue Hospital.

Dr. Evans has worked closely with Sepsis Alliance for several years, collaborating on initiatives to enhance healthcare provider education and improve early recognition and treatment of sepsis. Most recently, Dr. Evans delivered the plenary session, “Developing Sepsis treatments,” at the Unite for Sepsis Symposium.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Sepsis Alliance on several efforts focused on education and workforce development, and I’ve consistently been impressed by the dedication and professionalism of both the staff and Board of Directors,” said Dr. Evans. “Sepsis advocacy is vital to improving how we approach this complex condition, and I’m honored to contribute my expertise to advance this mission.”

With more than 15 years of experience in sepsis guideline development and quality improvement, Dr. Evans has played a pivotal role in advancing national and international standards of sepsis care. She has been deeply involved with the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, fostering collaboration among diverse experts to develop evidence-based clinical guidelines used worldwide. Dr. Evans was the co-chair of the 2016 and 2021 revisions of the Surviving Sepsis adult sepsis guidelines and the SSC COVID management guidelines co-chair. Additionally, she is the current Chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Critical Care Medicine specialty board.
