Honor, Celebrate, Remember Moms

Raising Awareness of Maternal Sepsis

This Mother’s Day we are honoring, celebrating, and remembering moms who have experienced sepsis or cared for someone with sepsis by raising awareness of maternal sepsis. Sepsis is the third leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths in the United States but nobody is talking about it. This May, we are changing the conversation.

Sepsis Alliance News

Welcome our New Advisory Board Members
Bennett Kleinberg joined Sepsis Alliance’s Advisory Board in April. Bennett is president and CEO of Jupiter Strategies, a business-to-business public relations and communications firm. Bennett is a fortunate survivor of sepsis with multiple organ failure. Following his remarkable full recovery, he took up long-distance running. He has completed more than 100 individual events and can been spotted annually running the New York City Marathon wearing his “Sepsis Survivor” shirt. To learn more about Bennett click here.

Tony Galbo joined Sepsis Alliance’s Advisory Board in April. Tony and his wife Liz received the Erin Kay Flatley Spirit Award in 2017 for passing Gabby’s Law in Illinois. In 2012, their five year-old daughter, Gabby, passed away from sepsis. It was this experience that drove Tony and his wife to get Gabby’s Law passed. This law requires all Illinois hospitals to adopt, implement and periodically update protocols for the early recognition and treatment of patients with sepsis or septic shock. Edwards Patient Day: Honoring Sepsis Survivors & their Caregivers

In honor of National Volunteer Week this past April, we would like to thank Carolyn, Maile, Jill, Ashley, Marla, and their caregivers who attended Edwards Lifesciences Patient Day to share their sepsis stories. Those in attendance heard both the experience of the sepsis survivor as well as the important perspective of their caregivers.

Carolyn also shared her story during the Sepsis Alliance Continuum of Care webinar, Recognizing and Managing Sepsis in Cancer Patients.
